A Numerical Study on the Combustion Process and Emission Characteristics of a Natural Gas-Diesel Dual-Fuel Marine Engine at Full Load

This paper presents research on the combustion and emission characteristics of a four-stroke Natural gas–Diesel dual-fuel marine engine at full load. The AVL FIRE R2018a (AVL List GmbH, Graz, Austria) simulation software was used to conduct three-dimensional simulations process formations inside cylinder in both diesel mode analyze in-cylinder pressure, temperature, characteristics. results were then compared showed good agreement with measured values reported engine’s shop test technical data. reductions pressure temperature peaks by 1.7% 6.75%, while NO, soot, CO, CO2 emissions reduced up 96%, 86%, 15.9%, respectively, comparison mode. also show better more uniform late stage combustions when operating Analyzing performance injection timing varies shows that, an 12 crank angle degrees before top dead center is best solution reduce keeping optimal power.
